Budget

Set your budget early on (or at least have an idea on how much you want to spend). In doing this you can rule out expensive parties before the Birthday child gets their heart set on one thing.

When setting your budget you may want to include the following:

• Venue costs
• Entertainment
• Invitations
• Party Bags
• Birthday Cake & Candles
• Food
• Party plates, cups, serviettes etc
• Bin Bags, Kitchen Towel, cling film, tin foil, matches
• Decorations & Balloons
• Thank you notes

Do you know someone at school/nursery/clubs who also has a birthday at the same time? You may want to have a joint party to share the cost or you can find out the date of their party so you don’t clash.

Pick a date or two

Sounds silly I know but over the years we have all had our hearts set on a date to suit all then either the venue is booked or someone cant make it. Pencil in two dates and then at least you have a back up plan and know what date to book for when confirming where you are having it.

What type of Party /venue

Ask yourself the following questions:

How many people are coming?
Do I want the party at home?
If not at home – which venue will suit the party best?
Entertainment (if required)?

Once you know all of the above then it is half the job done.

Check out our party theme/ideas to help with what style of party you would like.

Invitations

Decide how many people you are going to invite. We would then suggest the following:

• Make a list of whom you have invited and whether they accept or not.
• Don’t forget to put a reply date and contact number (if required). Some new invitations don’t have spaces for reply dates and you can be left with an extra guest or two on the day.
• Remember to include the time of the party and what time it finishes.
• If you are having a theme (fancy dress etc) include it on the invitation.

Remember you don’t have to write invitations these days you can always text or e-mail. Why not use our invitations. See the link on the party planner section.

Top Tip – If you need any help setting up or clearing up ask your family and friends now. Why not send them an invitation so they don’t forget.

Top Tip – remember to chase up non-respondents at least 1 week before the party.
Party Bags

Children love leaving with party bags so firstly you need to decide do you want to give party bags or are they already provided as party of the venue costs?

There are lots of different party bags on the market these days from ones which wont make it from the car to others which are like a gift in themselves. Where do you start?

We would recommend that you go back to your budget and see how much you have allocated it’s a great place to start. Most party bag suppliers (like Sprinkles) have bags based on themes and price so it makes the decision a little easier based on what type of party you are having.

Don’t leave ordering your party bags too late as they may take some time to arrive based on the party bag provider. At Sprinkles we aim to dispatch items next working day following receipt of payment.

We know that sometime it is hard to buy in advance, as you are not too sure of your numbers. We at Sprinkles offer a refund service for any bags that are not used. Please see our terms and conditions page for full details.

Birthday Cake (and candles)

Decide whether you want to bake your own birthday cake or purchase one from a bakery* or supermarket. If buying one – buy it the week of the birthday as sometimes shops run out of branded cakes early on.

* you may need to order your cake from a bakery 3 weeks in advance.

Oh don’t forget your candles.

Food

If you are providing the food – keep it simple.

After all you don’t want to spend all your time in the kitchen. Decide early on whether you are going to do hot or cold food. Make a list of what you need and prepare as much as you can early on so you don’t loose out on the fun.

Top Tip – the following is always requested at our parties and there are never any leftovers:

• Cheese and pineapple on sticks. Place in an orange for the perfect holder.

• Chocolate Strawberries (or fruit). Chocolate fountains are great but can be quite messy. Why not melt some cooking chocolate (we prefer milk but works well with dark and white) in a bowl over a saucepan of water. Wash your strawberries or fruit and keep the stems on. Dry the fruit and dip in the melted chocolate. Prepare a tray or plate with tin foil (shinny side up) and place your chocolate covered fruit on the tin foil. Place in the fridge and bring out in time for desserts.

Decorations
Do you want to add any decorations or balloons to let people know where the party is? We have a wide selection here at Sprinkles.

The Party

We would offer the following advice:

Arrive (or be ready) before your guests arrive.

Remember:
• Food (if required)
• Plates, cups, serviettes etc
• Cake, Candles & matches
• Bin bags etc
• Knife for the cake
• Camera for pictures
• A bag for taking your presents home
• Party Bags
• Details of entertainer (if necessary)

Thank You

You may want to send a thank you for coming to the party and presents received. Like you invitations these can be hand written, e-mail or text.

We have some ready for you to populate on our party planning section if you wish.

Top Tip – Don’t forget to thank your helpers.
